Sadiq Khan’s 2024 manifesto promised that he would maintain “a 24 hour police front office counter in every borough”. And we all remember his promise that a Labour Government would be the wind in his sails.
Well, just a year into London’s double-Labour nightmare, and it turns out that neither of these promises were true. In fact, the BBC has now reported that the 37 police front counters currently operating in London will be reduced to just 19 – with only 8 of these remaining open 24 hours.
The Met Police are defending these plans by saying that most crimes are reported online or by phone, however this doesn’t take into account the peace of mind that Londoners feel knowing there is somewhere they can go for support in an emergency should they need it.
