Sadiq Khan is proposing to charge up to £4 per crossing on the new Silvertown Tunnel, as well as the Blackwall Tunnel, which is currently free to use.
This toll is intended to pay off the £2.2 billion construction debt, but the City Hall Conservatives feel the current plans would unfairly impact residents of the eastern boroughs which border the Thames. Some of these residents rely on the tunnel for their daily commutes and may end up with a sudden charge of nearly £3,000 a year, when they could previously cross for free.
Unlike the Labour Mayor, we believe that residents of the eastern Boroughs which border the Thames shouldn’t have to pay the fare every single time they cross. You can respond to the Mayor’s consultation by visiting haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk before it closes on 3rd September.
